In self improvement, we talk a lot about self esteem, the ability to stay calm, composed and confident when facing tough challenges. Basically, self esteem is the pillars that support your self improvement and development. So, if you view self improvement as a table, self esteem is the table?s legs. If we have a low self esteem, our confidence will tumble and we won?t be able to face daily challenges. Our self esteem is like a dash board, and hence a dart pin can land on it any time without a warning. If we?ve low self esteem, a small dart pin can just destroy our entire self confidence. That?s why building a strong self esteem is critical to your self development.

Following are some tips you may find useful in helping you to harness your self esteem.

1. Learn to interact with positive people. Do not shy away from people, learn how to socialize and interact with people. Overcome your shyness, we only live once in this world, so there is nothing to be ashamed of. The more you socialize and interact with people around you, the more comfortable you will become, and your self esteem will build up slowly.

2. Avoid negative work environment. Stay away from a work environment that promotes unhealthy competition, a dog-eats-dog and back-stabbing work culture where everybody is fighting just to get ahead. This is where non-appreciative people usually thrive. Your self esteem will be destroyed when no one appreciate your efforts and contributions. If you feel that the company you?re working right now has such environment, look for a new job and get out from there as soon as you can.

3. Acknowledge your past mistakes and learn from the experiences. It?s okay to cry when we experience pain. But don?t let pain transform itself into FEAR. There is a time to cry from your misfortune and there is a time to recover. Do not dwell on your problems, learn from it, shake it off and move on. If you dwell on a problem for too long, it might grab you by the tail, swing you around and totally destroy your self esteem. Don?t let that happens to you. Treat each failure and mistake as a lesson.

4.If you have a problem, do not avoid or pretend that it doesn?t exist. Face your problem and deal with it. Get help from family members or closed friends if necessary. Share with them openly about the problem you?re facing and ask for help. You will be amazed that people are generally willing to help, sometimes all you need to do is just ASK. Families and friends can help boost your self esteem and motivate you to face your problem.

5. Do not worry about the future or things that haven?t occurred. Just strive to do your best and do the right things today and tomorrow will take care of itself.

6. Think positively. Always think about the good qualities and abilities in you. Focus on your strengths instead of weaknesses. Everything starts from your mind, if you think you can then you can and vice versa. Make positive thinking becomes your second habit and your self esteem will build up in no time.

7. Avoid negative view and be optimistic. Always try to see the positive part of any problem first. Wish for the best things in life and believe that every challenge or problem you experience is for the benefit of you to improve. Don?t wrap yourself up with all the negativities of the world. In building self esteem, we must learn how to make the best out of worst situations.

People who feel good about themselves are more likely to engage in conduct which is in their own interest, but those who suffer from low self-esteem often see themselves as unlikable and unattractive to others. The development of high self-esteem begins at birth and is heavily influenced by the reactions and responses of other significant. A positive self-esteem is reflected in an upbeat, outgoing personality, while the negative self-esteem often leads to failure, an inability to interact properly with others.

Last Year Internet Ad revenue hit $31bn. Q4 saw the best quarterly result ever at $9bn with a 20% increase on spend from the same period in 2010.

Figures from the Internet Advertising Bureau, which is the trade association for online advertising showed:

• 46.5% of the spend was on search advertising on websites such as Google
• About 8.1% was on online classified advertising
• 34.8% was on display advertising which includes banners and digital video commercials.

1. Websites and Blogs

If you want to make the best of online advertising then you need to have a website or blog. Most online advertising is geared to direct people to your website, a central hub if you will. A large percentage of internet users use the internet as their preferred choice to find information about goods and services. Your website or blog is a permanent shop window that is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Tip: Just having a website or blog does not mean you will get traffic, leads, sales. You need to be 100% clear on the purpose of your blog before starting.

2. Social Media Websites

The popularity of banner ads is partly due to fact that they are simple to produce and publish. They are also highly measurable. Depending on the ad and the producer or service, advertisers can calculate the cost per sale ? this is the amount of advertising money that is spent to make one sale.

4. Pay Per click (PPC) or Keyword Advertising

Search engines and many websites (including social networks sites such as Facebook and YouTube), carry small adverts with embedded URL?s. When someone clicks on these adverts, the company that put them there is charged. This is considered by many to be the best online advertising method by far and has been growing at a remarkable rate. Unlike traditional advertising pay per click is user activated. Users like it, because it costs them nothing and they only use it if there is something that attracts them.

The advantage of pay per click for advertisers is that they only pay for the actual click through to their site. With other methods of advertising, both offline and online, you have no particular idea of how much it will cost you to attract each visitor. A user that clicks through into your site is likely to be interested in what you have to say, because these users are actively looking for information or researching what you have to say, your product service or offering.

Parks Beyond Borders: Canada Funds New Urban National Park While Cutting Budgets And Dropping Employees; and a Dark Sky Park for England?

While Canada's Rouge River finally got funded as the nation's first "Urban National Park"?"18 times bigger than Central Park"?Canadians from east to west continued to lament Parks Canada budget cuts and closures.

The news spread fast across Canada last week that the government had announced that the Rouge Park complex that protects an entire watershed in Toronto would indeed become the country?s first ?national urban park.?

CBC News reported that, ?Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said Friday that Ottawa will be ?providing over $140 million over the next 10 years and over $7.5 million (annually) to bring to fruition the dream of a 'people's park.'?

?This national urban park will become a place of national significance and will be enjoyed for generations," Flaherty said.

News of the national park was welcomed by many, including Faisal Moola, who applauded it on the David Suzuki Foundations?s Web site. ?If all goes as planned, Rouge National Park will be one of the biggest urban parks in the world?18 times bigger than Central Park. It will follow the Rouge River from its source in the Ontario Greenbelt, down to the shores of Lake Ontario.?

Writing in Toronto?s Globe and Mail, Anne McIlroy reported that, ?The announcement comes as the federal agency is implementing $29 million in budget cuts? that are ?reducing the number of scientists and technical staff who help protect the ecological integrity, or health, of the parks,? and that the cuts have ?many experts worried about the future of our national parks.?

She also said, ?But Parks Canada is facing another challenge: Attendance is declining, which may have long-term implications for public support. In 1995, 15.3 million Canadians visited a national park, compared to only 12.5 million last year.?

Until Friday's announcement, Canadian papers continued to be focused on the budget cut and layoff story.

A piece in The Calgary Herald by Amanda Stephenson picked up elsewhere ran through the sad stats ?"138 Parks Canada employees in Banff, Jasper, Yoho and Waterton Lakes national parks were told their jobs were either ?surplus? (positions that will be eliminated) or ?affected? (jobs either to be reduced in hours or may be eliminated)? and ?25 of the approximately 100 employees at the Parks Canada regional office in Calgary will also lose their jobs."

Kevin King, regional vice-president for the Union of National Employees, said "There?ll be more people working in any given Tim Hortons than there will be field archeologists remaining in the country performing valuable, essential information to describe and interpret the history of our national parks and historic sites. And that?s a real shame for Canadians."

The article points out the impact on small local communities like Field, British Columbia. One resident there commented that some of the people who?d lost their jobs had just bought homes and would likely move away?with significant impact on the economy of a community with only 134 people.

Elsewhere, boaters and lake tourism businesspeople were lamenting plans to potentially reduce the hours of operation for locks operated by Parks Canada on the Rideau Canal, a Unesco World Heritage Site connecting Ottawa, and Kingston, Ontario on Lake Ontario. It?s the oldest continuously operated canal system in North America, having opened in 1832 as a precaution in case of war with the United States and is still in use today. Parks Canada operates the locks seasonally, opening them in mid-May and closing them in mid-October. The Brockville Recorder and Times gave voice to locals whose businesses are timed to the canal?s season and expect major impacts if the season or hours are cut, though the canal season appears likely to remain stable this season.

Summer is just starting but the topic is winter for some of the people worried about the cuts. The Calgary Herald story also reported winter pessimism in Field, where Yoho National Park?s visitor center will be closed next winter and Parks Canada will no longer groom Nordic ski trails.

The Winnipeg Free-Press reported that, ?Federal budget cuts have claimed Manitoba's largest network of cross-country ski trails, as Riding Mountain National Park will no longer maintain its 218-kilometre winter trail system.?

The park is in southern Manitoba and is ?Manitoba's only road-accessible national park.? The paper said the park will, ?will stop grooming ski trails, operating a skating rink, maintaining a skating trail or keeping the backcountry Cairns Cabin open during the winter as part of service cuts that also include limited visitor-safety services during the off-season and reduced visitor-centre hours during the spring and fall shoulder seasons.?

The paper quoted concerns that winter businesses that rely exclusively on the park?s winter recreation activities may be deeply affected.

The news was bad as well at Nova Scotia's Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site, the only Parks Canada site that is designated both a National Park and a National Historic Site. The local Herald News reported the park would only be open in summer with locals decrying the loss of winter recreation in the park.

Certified Dark Skies Over UK?s Northumberland National Park?

The UK?s Guardian newspaper marveled last week that a country as small and crowded as Britain might just be about to see its first officially designated "dark sky preserve? by the International Dark Sky Association.

The paper said the effort by the local forest authority to designate Kielder Forest and adjacent Northumberland National Park was sparked by the success of ?astronomical holidays? called ?star camps? that had drawn 30,000 enthusiasts in four years.

Stargazing is an activity promoted by the national park and creates an added attraction to visit this northern England national park if you're heading to the UK this summer.

Commentators in the story describe how flabbergasted visitors from elsewhere in England are by the dazzling night sky, a spectacle that led one businessman to place star charts and binoculars in his rental holiday cabins.

The paper said that research by Kielder Observatory and astronomical societies had proven that the ?darkness is Stygian enough to meet the standards of IDSA (International Dark Sky Association), provided regular monitoring and other measures are agreed to.? Dark sky status was bestowed on Galway Forest in Scotland in 2009 and reports confirm the designation has boosted the tourism business.

The Guardian quoted Elisabeth Rowark, director of the Kielder Water Development Trust, as saying, ?Dark sky status would allow us to protect, cherish and promote our natural nightscapes, but gaining public support is the key. It?s crucial to understand that the idea does not mean turning lights off.? She emphasized the need to work with locals to ?create less wasteful lighting and promote the night sky as an asset for the region.?

The Guardian said the dark sky status would mean ?the country will be home to an official ?dark sky preserve? equalled only by two lonely areas in Quebec and Texas.?

Lake District National Park ?Markedly Improved?

Elsewhere in the UK, the Lake District National Park Authority has won high praise in the The National Parks Authorities Performance Assessment 2012, according to a story in GoOutdoors.

After inspectors toured the park talking to locals, park partners, and others, the park received ?three out of four or better in every category in which it was assessed,? including ?high standards and exceptionally ?approachable? attitude.?

The park staff was touted for its ?shared vision? and efforts to improve service. The article said, ?Areas singled out for special praise were numerous, but included Brockhole's national park visitor centre?which was described as ?dynamically transformed'?and the park's climate-change strategies, which made the Lakes a ?recognised ... leader? with ?award winning environmental performance.??

The Lake District National Park, England?s largest national Park (second in the UK) is noted as much for spectacular peaks as lakes.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) ? Drenching rains from Tropical Storm Beryl are bringing a soggy Memorial Day to the southeastern U.S. coast, though one Georgia official says he expects the rainfall to be largely beneficial.

Ray Parker is the emergency management chief for McIntosh County on the Georgia coast. He said Monday that the 1 to 2 inches of rain that fell in his area overnight had been absorbed like it "fell on an empty sponge."

Parker says his county south of Savannah saw minimal damage as Beryl came ashore in northern Florida early Monday. Most came from scattered power outages caused by falling tree limbs. He says two homes had trees fall on them.

Beryl was forecast to weaken as it hovered near the Georgia-Florida line.

Inmates rule Honduras' deadly prisons

SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras?? Inside one of Honduras' most dangerous and overcrowded prisons, inmates operate a free-market bazaar, selling everything from iPhones to prostitutes.

It's more like a fenced-in town than a conventional prison, where raccoons, chickens and pigs wander freely among food stalls and in troughs of open sewage. But guards do not dare cross the painted, yellow "linea de la muerte" (line of death) into the inner sanctum run by prisoners, and prisoners do not breach the perimeter controlled by guards.

"The prisoners rule," assistant prison director Carlos Polanco told The Associated Press. "We only handle external security. They know if they cross the line, we can shoot."

The unofficial division of power at the San Pedro Sula Central Corrections Facility is mimicked throughout the country, where a Lord-of-the-Flies system allows inmates to run a business behind bars, while officials turn a blind eye in exchange for a cut of the profits they say is spent on prison needs.

This culture virtually guarantees that even in the glare of international scrutiny over a fire that killed 361 prisoners at another Honduran prison three months ago, little stands to change.

Just one month after the fire at Comayagua prison, convicts at San Pedro Sula turned on their leader, killing 14 people and taking over the prison for three weeks before officials could get inside. Less than two weeks ago another inmate was killed and 11 wounded in a brawl.

The AP this month toured the prison in San Pedro Sula, where 2,137 inmates live in a space built for 800. Journalists gained access not through the prison director but with permission from the head inmate, Noe Betancourt, who provided a team of eight prisoners as security. No guards went inside the bustling, autonomous town, where women and children mill about the stalls selling Coca-Cola, fruit, T-shirts, hammocks, shoes and rugs. Some 30 people enter from outside every day to work the market.

The guards typically keep to an area between two sets of locked doors. The first set is locked against entry to the outside world. Between those doors, and the doors to prison cells, lies the yellow line. Prisoners keep to their side of it so religiously that the doors to the indoor market and the cells are unlocked during the day.

At night, guards do venture in to lock the cells, inmate Betancourt said, but inmates have keys and crowbars, because in case of fire, "the police would run away and leave us in here."

A thickset middle-aged man who gave his prison tour accompanied by his girlfriend, Betancourt is responsible for taking charge of new inmates and explaining the fees, which include cell space.

Prices range from 1,000 lempiras ($50) for the worst cells to 15,000 lempiras ($750) for cleaner, more secure living space. Inmates who can't afford to pay anything sleep on the floors and get the worst jobs, such as cleaning.

Betancourt was "elected" to his post by his fellow inmates last month after his predecessor made the mistake of sharply raising fees.

The boss, Mario Enriquez, was widely hated for abusing prisoners, beating deadbeats or hanging others from the ceiling overnight, dogs biting at their toes. But after he hiked the costs of cells, food and other privileges, enraged inmates attacked him. They cut off his head, cut out his organs and fed his heart to his dog. Then they killed the dog, according to inmates whose account was confirmed by authorities.

Thirteen of the leader's band were murdered too, their bodies buried under mattresses and set afire.

After the killings, inmates continued to control the prison for three weeks, not allowing officials or firefighters in to investigate the blaze, according to San Pedro Sula prosecutor John Mejia. The dead bodies were handed over to the prison guards.

As in the case of the Comayagua prison fire, no charges have been filed in those deaths. At Comayagua, the prison director was dismissed, but the guards who fled and left men to burn in their cells that night were reassigned to other prisons, said Danny Rodriguez, the prison's new director.

Rodrigo Escobar Bil, an investigator with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, said the country's prisoners deserve better.

"It's likely that something grave will happen in the future in Honduras' prisons, given that the situation hasn't changed from what existed three months ago," he said after touring a prison last month.

The U.N.'s Honduras Subcommittee Against Torture reported in 2010 that corruption pervades the entire system, from prison staff to outsiders, ensuring "a silence ... a guarantee of impunity."

The prison is heavily overcrowded, with bunks bunched up side by side in large cells. Throughout the tour, prisoners could be seen visiting with their wives and playing with their children.

Prison clerks wearing blue jackets never stopped moving, carrying packages of food, tobacco or money sent from family members. In one corner, a band with an electric guitar practiced while in another a group watched Real Madrid play soccer on TV.

Everything costs.

Starting at about 75 lempiras ($3.50) a week, inmates can pay to have their floors cleaned or air conditioning repaired. They can buy beer at three times the street price, drugs and a night with a woman.

The profits are distributed among the workers, stall owners and the prison administration, Polanco said.

The administration cut is 120,000 lempiras ($6,000) a month, which pays for maintenance, gas to transport prisoners to court or the hospital and to serve better food, said Hugo Hernandez, San Pedro Sula prison administrator.

"The state gives us 13 lempiras per inmate (about 60 cents) a day for food. With that money they would starve, so I have to find a way to cover the rest," he said.

Prison officials openly acknowledge their complicity with prisoners as a fact of life in a country that spends roughly $250 per year on each of 12,000 inmates crowded into a system built for 8,000.

"For some it's corruption," Polanco said, "but for us it's the only way to keep the system from breaking apart."

Inmate Jorge Gutierrez runs a restaurant with specially designed, laminated menus featuring double hamburgers, pupusas and other popular dishes. He pays 480 lempiras ($25) a month to the prison administration to run his business, employs two fellow prisoners as waiters and said he still makes enough to support his family on the outside.

Gutierrez said when he is freed, he can rent or sell his business to another prisoner.

"No way would I want to be transferred to a new prison," he said. "I would lose my privileges."

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights said the Honduran government has all but abandoned its penitentiary system. The report drew similar conclusions as that which followed a 2004 fire in the same prison that killed 107 inmates: a tinderbox of overcrowding, overloaded electrical systems and a lack of trained personnel to respond in a crisis.

"Honduras is a country with few resources," said Honduran Security Minister Pompeyo Bonilla. "We've asked the International Monetary Fund to be more flexible with its criteria for issuing new debt so we can deal with our prison problem."

At Comayagua, the fire spread quickly, fueled by clothing, bedding, cooking oil and other belongings of prisoners in rows of bunks only inches apart.

The same conditions exist in San Pedro Sula, where the human rights commission also condemned as deplorable its lack of hygiene and adequate food and potable water.

Fernando Ceguera, a prisoner who maintains the electrical system, showed 12 overloaded transformers that leak oil and spark whenever it rains. "They could explode at any minute," he said.

Assistant Security Secretary Marcela Castaneda recently said in Washington that Honduras plans to build at least two new penitentiaries, noting that some facility are far more overpopulated than San Pedro Sula, one as much as 235 percent over capacity.

But the plans lack financing. San Pedro Sula has had a committee to build a new prison for 10 years and is still waiting for the state to give it property to build on.

Prison boss Betancourt, meanwhile, said he is already working on a design and getting price quotes to build new cells in the current facility, adding a second story above its chapel and dining room.

"Working ourselves with $10,000," said Betancourt, "we can expand the capacity of the prison by 500 inmates."
